The Devil to Pay by Katie Daysh

This was such a great sequel, and I can’t wait for the (as yet unnamed) book 3! While this review won’t be as long as my review of Leeward, as many of my thoughts remain the same, I still wanted to highlight this sequel to ask all of my queer historical fiction loving friends to please check this out.

The Devil to Pay delivered on high seas adventure as well as an amazing, realistic emotional depth to two characters who are still, ultimately, getting to know one another. Getting to see inside Courtney’s head, and his view of their relationship as well as learning a lot more about his past, added a dimension even to my thoughts on the first book that I found extremely compelling. His doubts and insecurities felt very realistically portrayed as someone who has fears but, at the same time, has reasons to suspect those fears are somewhat unfounded.

I don’t have much more to say that I didn’t already say, but this is definitely a can’t-miss series for people who love queer historical fiction and naval adventure… so I have very much recommended this to all my friends who are fans of Black Sails.

I would search the seas if you went missing.
